FORT SMITH ART CENTER

RECEPTION HOSTS & HOSTESSES
The Art Center holds an opening reception for each new exhibit, usually on a Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. Volunteers donate and serve the refreshments (usually cookies, punch, and simple finger foods, though it is an excellent opportunity to try out more elaborate recipes). Volunteers also help greet the public at these events, or occupy work stations such as the new children’s activity tables we are adding during some openings. Time commitment: 1 to 4 p.m. on a Sunday, plus prep time (15 minutes to three hours).

FAMILY FUN DAY VOLUNTEERS
Family Fun Day is a new Art Center program which happens on Saturdays, three or four times a year. Children accompanied by adults are invited to drop by the Art Center, help themselves to the art materials and create an artwork together. The simple art projects are not heavily guided, and no instructions are usually needed – only suggestions and encouragement. It’s an opportunity for children and their parents or grandparents to spend some quality time together being creative. Volunteers are needed to greet the  parents and children, show them the available art materials, and cheer them on while they do their own self-driven creative projects. Setup and cleanup are part of the job, but don’t require much time or heavy lifting. Time commitment: a Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., or a shorter shift within those hours.

“BLITZ DAY” CREWS
The Art Center has an ideal volunteer opportunity for groups such as sports teams, corporate teams or Sunday School classes, who would like to make a significant impact in a short time. We need teams willing to show up and work together to complete a project in half a day or so. Below are listed potential “Blitz Day” targets. The team leader will come to the Art Center in advance, survey the job to be done, help with acquisition of needed materials, and coordinate his team’s efforts on the day of the job. Blitz Day Crews may have anywhere from four to fifteen members.  Time Commitment: one day, as scheduled in advance.
Potential Blitz Day targets:
1) Studio Building (cleaning, organizing the art supplies, labeling the storage boxes and cabinets; preparing the space for use by classes).
2)  Attic (sorting through old Christmas decorations and sundry mannequin body parts; inventorying contents of mysterious boxes; organizing and labeling). (It’s nice up there on a cool day.)
3) Office Space Moving & Construction Day (coming soon). Brawny volunteers will be needed to move furniture and file cabinets, and to help construct a framed wall dividing one office into two).
